Today is 8th November 2023….Where did the year go? It felt like yesterday I was wishing friends and family a happy new year while I recommitted myself to a year of clean eating. I checked into a hotel to retreat for the first few days of the year to catch my breath. After a busy holiday season. Retreating is a periodic ritual of mine, I may write about it in the future…
As I pondered on how the year has been so far, I felt a childlike tingle of excitement in my belly. Although 2023 is drawing its curtains so fast, we still have a few planned times to enjoy. The obvious are Thanksgiving and Christmas. These 2 major holidays bring us all back together. Sitting at the dinner table as a family with friends and recounting how the year has been. The most fascinating thing about these holidays for me is the response of the children to it. The purity of the excitement coupled with the expectations of receiving the gifts they desire is always a joy to watch.
I once mentioned to a friend that I miss the glee I felt as a child during the holidays, I wonder what happened to it. She responded, “Because it was your parent's responsibility to create it but now it is your turn to do it for yourself”. You guessed right I took on the challenge to recreate the childhood glee for myself.
The result of the recreation does not have the exact semblance as childhood but the similarities are MAJOR!!!! The holidays have become fun again because I choose to be deliberate about being childlike again. In the midst many things tugging for my mind; the todos, business, family, and relationships to mention a few. In being deliberate about my childlikeness I do embrace gratitude.
I am thankful for so many things, like a child going through the heap of gifts under the Christmas tree with his/her name on so many. The child opens each gift and turns around to say thank you to the giver of the gift.
As a brand, we have so many reasons to be thankful. It has been an interesting ride not easy but interesting. We have had highs and lows, moments of doubt, and moments of immovable confidence. Through it all we have remained committed to what led us here; OUR VISION.
So in the spirit of thanksgiving, we are thankful for YOU. Thankful that we get to do what brings us so much joy, translating stories into beautiful designs. We are thankful for the tribe’s support, without it our vision would not be viable.
In the bid to reconnect us with the child in us, we have created our last collection for the year around fun and childlikeness. We have spoken about Love --being a gift, and Resilience with our previous collections but this time around we are talking about something lighter Which is Fun, colorful, and playful. Our new collection mission is to remind us that regardless of how old we are, we should not lose the child in us.
It is going to be a childlike holiday here at Jumoke Lagos, we hope you get the same…..
With lots of love and precious stones
